In September Disability Action and BBC Northern Ireland collaborated to develop an online session ‘Get into Media’, thanks to Tommy Cairns Job Match Employment Engagement Officer.

Cathal Carson is a Job Match participant who attended the online session and who has subsequently gained a temporary position as a Transcriber with BBC NI as a direct result. Cathal said:

During the session, I felt privileged to have the opportunity to talk with the BBC’s Julie Forbes and the Production Executive Vicky Bevis about my passion for film, my previous experiences within film and my BSc(Hons) Degree in Cinematic Arts.

A week later, I was overjoyed when Julie called to say that she was offering me a temporary position as a Transcriber for the BBC.

I am extremely grateful to my Job Match Supported Employment Officer, Ruth Baxter. Ruth has shown not only great commitment to my job search but has also achieved surprisingly quick results, helping me gain paid employment within a month of joining the Job Match programme. Hopefully this opportunity is a step closer to my desired career.
