Personal Independence Payment

The reform of disability living allowance (DLA) means that DLA is being replaced by a new benefit called personal independence payment (PIP) for those of working age (16-64).  The change started in June 2016.  

PIP helps towards some of the extra costs arising from having a long-term health condition or disability. There will be a three month qualifying period and the health condition or disability must be expected to last for a further nine months. Entitlement to PIP is based on the effect a long term health condition has on your daily life, not the condition itself.

DLA will stay for children up to the age of 16 years, both for existing or new claims. People who were aged 65 years or over on 20 June 2016 will continue to receive DLA provided they continue to meet the eligibility criteria.
