Celebrating 40 Years of Empowerment and Advocacy

In 2026, Disability Action marks 40 years of empowering, advocating for, and supporting people with disabilities across Northern Ireland. To honour this incredible achievement, the organisation is hosting the Ruby Gala Ball, an evening of celebration and fundraising. This landmark event will bring together supporters, partners, and service users to reflect on the journey so far and the road ahead.

A Legacy of Inclusion and Support

For more than four decades, Disability Action has championed the rights of disabled people, delivering essential services that create opportunity, promote inclusion, and protect their rights. From advocacy and awareness programmes to information services, training, community education, and wellbeing initiatives, the organisation has been a cornerstone of support for disabled individuals and their families.

A Sector Facing Challenges

The 40th anniversary is particularly significant as it arrives amidst severe funding cuts for the voluntary and community sector in Northern Ireland, which has seen a 64% reduction in resources. Despite these challenges, Disability Action remains steadfast in its commitment to building an inclusive society that meets the needs of people with disabilities.

Andrea Brown, CEO of Disability Action, expresses: "We continue to stand alongside individuals and families at times when support is needed most, ensuring that every disabled person has the opportunity to live their lives without prejudice or barriers."

Sponsorship Opportunities – Be Part of the Celebration

Disability Action invites businesses and organisations to support this Ruby Gala Ball and its mission by exploring sponsorship opportunities. With the disability sector facing growing funding pressures, sponsorship plays a critical role in sustaining impactful services such as the Mental Health Counselling Service.

Benefits of Sponsorship

  • Public recognition across event publicity, marketing materials, and digital platforms
  • Positive brand association with a respected disability rights organisation
  • Opportunities for staff engagement and corporate social responsibility
  • Direct impact by supporting essential services for disabled individuals and families

Grainne McLaughlin, Marketing Manager for Disability Action, highlights the importance of partnership and sponsorship in confronting funding challenges. “Support from businesses and partners will ensure that disabled people continue to receive the specialist support they need — now and into the future.”
