Exploring the need for food banks for disabled people – a call for evidence

The Trussell Trust calls for evidence for an ambitious research project to better understand disabled people’s experiences of the social security system and the drivers behind the overrepresentation of disabled people being referred to food banks. This includes a comparative analysis of disabled people’s experiences of claiming Adult Disability Payments in Scotland, and Personal Independence Payments across the rest of the UK.

500,000 people to receive energy vouchers

The Post Office says the first £600 energy payment vouchers for people on pre-paid or keypad meters will start arriving from 16 January. The vouchers are being distributed to about 500,000 people who pay their electricity bills quarterly or use pre-payment meters.
New Cost of Living Payments for people on disability benefits

Every household in Northern Ireland is entitled to receive the cost of living payments announced by the UK government. This was originally £400 per household to be paid through your electricity supplier but has now been increased to £600 per household. Because of the lack of an Assembly and Executive at Stormont, a method to get the payment to consumers has not been decided on and it will not be made before January.
