Our Policy Priorities

These are the policy areas we consider most important. Because we cannot address every issue, we focus our briefing papers, consultation responses, and influencing work on the priorities below.

  • UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities: Upholding the fundamental rights and freedoms of disabled people as set out in international law.

  • Draft Programme for Government: Monitoring and influencing government commitments to ensure disabled people are reflected in policy planning.

  • Social Care: Advocating for accessible, high-quality care services that support independent living and dignity.

  • Social Security: Ensuring fair and adequate financial support systems for disabled people across Northern Ireland.

  • Personal Independence Payment (PIP): Challenging unfair assessments and promoting a benefits system that truly meets people's needs.

  • Employment: Promoting inclusive workplaces and removing barriers that prevent disabled people from entering and remaining in employment.

  • Transport and Driving: Improving accessible transport options so disabled people can travel safely and independently.

  • Participation: Ensuring disabled people have a meaningful voice in decisions that affect their lives.
