Disability Action is a rights based organisation and we believe in human rights for all. At the heart of all of our work is the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD).
UNCRPD is an international agreement drawn up by states with the involvement of disabled people which affirms that people with disabilities have the same rights as everyone else.
The Convention was ratified on 8 June 2009 by the United Kingdom. This means the government is legally bound to protect the human rights of its people with disabilities.
Since the UK ratified to the UNCRPD in 2008 Disability Action has been working with disabled people and organisations to monitor the implementation of the Convention in Northern Ireland.
People often ask us how the UNCRPD can help them.
