If you’re aged 16-24 year old and finding it hard to get a job, the new JobStart scheme offers job opportunities to help you improve your employment skills and potential to get a job or progress into further education or training.

JobStart is a new scheme, run by the Department for Communities, to help young people who are at risk of long term unemployment, aged 16 – 24 years, get into the job market by offering six month job opportunities with a range of employers, in all sectors across Northern Ireland.

It will help you develop your employment skills so that by the end of the six months you may:

  • be offered a job by the employer
  • have the skills and experience to help you find another job
  • progress into further education or training opportunities

The first job opportunities are now available. Our Job Match team can help you find out if you are eligible to apply, help you to enrol on the scheme and search for a job to suit your skills.  For more information contact Anne Reid, Job Match Manager (Interim), on 028 9029 7880 or email [email protected].

The benefits of JobStart

By taking part in the JobStart scheme you’ll:

  • develop your employment skills and skills you wouldn’t learn in a classroom
  • get a six-months paid job opportunity
  • enhance your CV and future job prospects
  • increase your confidence
  • learn important work skills such as teamwork, problem solving and communication skills

How much you’ll get paid

During the JobStart scheme you’ll receive at least the National Minimum Wage for 25 hours per week.  Your employer may choose to offer you additional hours.  Any training you need will also be covered along with other costs such as any uniforms or Personal Protective Equipment you may need.
