Congratulations to Karen Craig who has recently been appointed to the position of HR Officer with Disability Action.

Karen was appointed as Interim HR Officer in November 2019 following Kieran Teague's departure from the organisation. She very quickly immersed herself in the role and has fully implemented and taken the lead on a new software system that will enable Disability Action to streamline all HR activities and remain GDPR secure for many years to come, improving employee and overall business performance. Following an internal recruitment process Karen was appointed to the HR Officer role on 30th June.

Karen has been with Disability Action since September 2017 working on the DRILL Programme and volunteering in HR with Kieran Teague. Karen tells us:

On top of all my previous HR experience, the volunteering was invaluable and I quickly became emotionally involved in the ethos and continued success of the organisation.

Throughout this time Karen was studying for a MSc in Human Resource Management & an Associate CIPD Level 7 qualification and graduated in December 2019 with a High Commendation.

On a personal level, I value other people’s time and the organisational resources. Therefore, I work hard to become an asset and not a liability. Many things motivate me; my goal is to continue developing and add value to the HR strategy.  This motivates me on a personal level to go beyond my own expectations. My personal values ensure that I am an ally when it comes to challenging misconceived perceptions regarding disabled people and this has instilled within me a strong desire to help others to develop, be seen and to succeed.

The Disability Action team wish Karen every success in her new role.
