The NI Executive have given their commitment that the regulations regarding proof of exemption from wearing face coverings and the removal of severe distress as a reasonable excuse will not go ahead.

There is no need for anyone to provide proof of exemption and severe distress remains a reasonable excuse for not wearing a mask.  This was confirmed at a meeting Disability Action had with The Executive Office on 20 January.

Many thanks to everyone who engaged with us to discuss the proposed changes to face coverings exemptions either directly or via our online event on 11 January, which the NI Executive attended.

We are pleased that the NI Executive listened to d/Deaf and disabled people’s concerns and that our engagement had a successful outcome.
