How we can help DRILL See Me as a Human Being - Launch of DRILL research project Posted 03.12.2020 This Disability Research on Independent Living & Learning (DRILL) research project is co-produced by disabled people with three partners - The DRILL National Advisory Group, Disability Action Northern Ireland and The Northern Ireland Social Care Council. It explores how attitudes within the social care system impact on the independent living choices of disabled people and tackles two major issues: Attitudes, which significantly impact on disabled people’s daily lives Adult social care, which exists to support people to live as independently as possible The aim of the research was to understand how attitudes impact on disabled people’s experience of social care and, in particular, how these attitudes impact on their independent living choices and experiences. Attitudes matter to disabled people. This research allowed space for people to talk about the impacts that attitudes have on their experience of social care. It investigates the experiences of social care workers, social workers and others who work in the social care system to better understand the challenges they face in their work. This work is driven and underpinned by fundamental human rights. The research report is being launched today as part of our International Day of Disabled People celebrations.
