Volunteering

Disability Action is keen to attract volunteers to assist in the delivery or our services to disabled people.

Volunteers play an integral part in our work and there are many areas in which you can become involved, including: -

  • Corporate services such as administration and finance.
  • Delivering a comprehensive advice and information service on a wide range of disability related topics.
  • Maintaining our library resources.
  • Helping to deliver a range of disability/equality/diversity/capacity building/information technology training courses.
  • Driving our accessible minibuses.
  • Providing driving tuition and assessments.
  • Helping with fundraising events and activities.

Voluntary work can give you good experience in preparation for paid employment or can be a valuable way to give something back to your community. As a volunteer you will have a comprehensive induction, access to learning and development opportunities, be given full support in the form of supervision and team meetings and be reimbursed for any out of pocket expenses.

While volunteers give us their time freely they have other commitments such as family, work, or education and training. Disability Action will therefore ensure that the time you give to us will not adversely impact on your other responsibilities.

All that Disability Action expects from our volunteers is an ability to work within our aims and values, an ability to give a regular time commitment and a willingness to train.

Disability Action is committed to equality of opportunity and we welcome applications for volunteers regardless of disability, gender (includes women, men and transgendered people), marital and family status, sexual orientation, religious belief, political opinion, race or ethnic origin, domestic or caring responsibility or age.

If you are interested in volunteering please contact us humanresources@disabilityaction.org.

Current Opportunities

  • Multimedia Volunteer

Do you have skills in making and editing videos for online content?  Are you good with camera?  Could you help us to tell our story online?

Disability Action’s External Relations and Policy Unit has responsibility for the marketing and communications for Disability Action.  We make sure that disabled people know about their rights, what we can do to support them, and ask them to tell us about things disabled people want to see change.

We’re in the process of developing a new website and we need a volunteer to help us put together new video and photographic content for the website.  We understand the role video can play in helping us reach our audience, but we need someone to come and help us develop the content and make it accessible for disabled people.  We have all the kit we just need the person!
