Case Study 1
A gentleman called into the Disability Action Carrickfergus office stating that his son was home for a holiday from America. They had planned trips out in the car but he said that his wife would have to stay at home because even though she could travel by car, she could neither get into or out of it.
The client was advised of several numbers for suppliers of travel equipment and, specifically, portable swivel seats.
The gentleman called into the office again stating that the holiday was very successful due to the fact that the whole family enjoyed the trips especially his wife who had not been out in the car for some time. He and his wife are looking forward to regular trips out together.
Two elderly sisters (both in their eighties) living together most of their lives. One sister profoundly disabled, the other sister the Carer.
They came to our office with a housing enquiry and we dealt with their specific query and as is our practice we asked if they would like to have a benefit check/calculation. It turned out that for years they should have had two Severe Disability Premiums and one underlying Carers Premium. After prolonged correspondences and in-depth investigation, Pension Credit acknowledged their entitlement and back paid to the tune of £25,000
