Regional Development Minister visits Disability Action

03 December 2009

Disability Action welcomed the Minister for Transport, Conor Murphy MLA MP to their Belfast office on Wednesday 2 December.

The primary purpose of the visit was for the Minister to see first hand the services which the Department for Regional Development supports, including door-to-door transport in the Belfast area, Group Transport and the Mobility Centre.

All these services are vital in the personal mobility of people with disabilities. During the visit the Minister met staff and service users from the Mobility Centre and Transport Services.

Monica Wilson, Disability Action Chief Executive said "We are delighted to welcome the Minister to Disability Action. It is important that the Minister can directly observe the benefits that people with disabilities receive from services such as Door-2-Door transport and the Mobility Centre. "

The Minister said: "I welcome the opportunity to visit Disability Action today. This is a real opportunity for me to see first hand the important work of Disability Action and to hear what people with disabilities think about these services.

"I am committed to promoting and supporting transport that addresses the needs of everyone in our community. I would like to congratulate Disability Action on the excellent job they do. Disability Action, with my Department's support, provides valuable services for older people and for people with disabilities.

"Today has reinforced the importance of these services and how they make a real difference to people's lives and to their independence."
