ITV is extending its online listings guide for British Sign Language translated programmes to feature more channels, including The Disney Channel and Sky Sports News.
Viewers wanting to know which programmes feature BSL can log on to www.signpostbsl.comfor two-week listings. Highlights this week include ITV2 and ITV3’s Emmerdale omnibus, CBBC’s Raven, featuring ITV Signed Stories supporter James McKenzie and Sky Sports 1’s Soccer AM: The Best Bits.
Malcolm Wright, Managing Director of ITV SignPost says the new service is just one of the many additions which will be made to www.signpostbsl.com as it merges into www.bsl.tv, a one-stop-shop for news, information and entertainment.
He said: “ITV SignPost is dedicated to opening up access to information for BSL users and we hope people will find our new extended service useful.
“We know that deaf people don’t just want to watch programmes about deaf people or deaf issues. We encourage the visibility of sign language on mainstream television – it’s an important way of increasing deaf awareness.
“TV companies which add BSL to their programming will get free listings of their shows on our website, which has a large diverse audience of both deaf and hearing people.
“We also run a regular feature on BSL interpreted and presented events and theatre shows on our Sign Community News pages. Anyone with anything to publicise can email ITV SignPost at info@signpostbsl.com.”
