Report on the Implementation of the UNCRPD in Northern Ireland

07 March 2017

Update March 2017

Further report on the implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) in Northern Ireland.

Following on from our previous update on the UNCRPD in December 2015, we have now submitted an updated report to the UN on how the UNCRPD is being implemented and adhered to in Northern Ireland. A copy of our report can be found here.

There will be an evidence gathering session by the UN in Geneva on 13 March which will look at the issues which are currently outstanding in respect of the implementation and compliance by the UK as a whole to the UNCRPD. The Committee will then produce a list of issues to raise with the UK , and which the UK must respond to before the examination in the summer.

As a constituent part of the UK, the Northern Ireland Executive has to adhere to and implement the UNCRPD.

Four people from NI will be attending the session in Geneva and we will ensure that a strong voice argues on behalf of the rights of disabled people. We are also working with our colleagues from organisations from across the UK. We will provide a further update upon our return but you can also follow our visit on social media.
