Centre on Human Rights for Disabled People

Our Vision

A population of disabled people who see the positive, independent and contributing aspects of their lives and who are supported to empower themselves to make those contributions to society.

A society in which non disabled people recognise the rights of disabled people to be different, to live their lives in a way which meets their particular needs without prejudice and unfavourable treatment.

A society, which is inclusive and which adapts to meet the needs of disabled people, rather than expecting disabled people to fit in.

  • To develop and ensure the delivery of an effective system of accessible legal redress.
  • To deliver key policy changes which promote the human rights of people with disabilities.
  • To develop and mainstream a system of human rights proofing which includes disability issues and to report on the extent to which existing protection systems recognise the human rights abuses faced by disabled people.
