Understanding the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (OCN Level 2)

If you are a person with a disability or a representative organisation, it is important that you understand the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and recognise when human rights are being violated. Everyone in society has a duty to understand the rights of people with disabilities and to ensure these rights are protected and exercised.

This course will help you to understand the principles of the Convention, appreciate disability concerns and understand the mechanisms and frameworks needed to translate the Convention into practice.

Understanding Human Rights (Entry Level 3, Level 1 and Level 2)

Many situations experienced by people with disabilities involve human rights. However, there is little information available about human rights and how they are related to people with disabilities.

Too often a person may not realise that they are able to do something about their situation, or even that there is something wrong with the way they are being treated. It is, therefore, vital that people with disabilities are able to access information about their human rights and challenge such treatment.

This programme provides practical information about human rights and their relevance to people with disabilities. It is useful for people with disabilities or those wanting to learn more about the impact of human rights on people with disabilities.
