Human Rights and You

The United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (2008) is an international agreement drawn up by states with the involvement of disabled people which affirms that people with disabilities have the same rights as everyone else.

Understanding your rights
If you are a person with a disability, a family member or friend of a disabled person, an advocate or a representative of a disability organisation, it is important that you understand the rights of a person with a disability and how the Convention may be used as a tool to enable you and others to achieve these rights.

Representatives of public bodies should also understand the Convention as they have a duty to work in ways which protect these human rights.

Disability Action’s Centre on Human Rights provides training which has been accredited by the Open College Network (OCN) on Human Rights and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. For further information, click here.
