Workable (NI) is a Department for Employment and Learning programme providing
flexible and individual support to meet the needs of disabled employees and
their employers in a wide variety of jobs. Disability Action operates the
programme across Northern Ireland.
The programme can help employers recruit or retain disabled staff and can
support disabled jobseekers to be successful in employment through providing
practical support in the workplace. The range of supports offered are derived
from the organisation’s experience of service delivery, from best practice in
the model of Supported Employment and from the feedback gained from service
users.
The menu of supports will be tailored to individual need as expressed by
prospective employees and employers and consists of pre-placement supports,
on-site and off-site supports. The supports we can offer include:
-
Assistance with job matching/job finding
-
Effective workplace support to disabled employees – mentoring/advocacy,
reinforcing positive behaviours
-
Job coaching – assisting employees to gain the workskills for the job
-
Monitoring reasonable adjustment – advice and assistance on successful
reasonable adjustments
-
Liaison with support networks – family and other support agencies
-
Support to the employer – an innovative range of training options for employers
and co-workers.
-
Financial assistance to employers – to be negotiated at an individual level
where necessary
